1. Know how Original Medicare works while traveling

If you have Original Medicare, you can generally see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare anywhere in the United States. This can be helpful if you are visiting family in another state or spending part of the year somewhere warmer. However, it is still important to carry your Medicare card and check whether the provider accepts Medicare before receiving non-emergency care, so you are not surprised by unexpected costs or billing issues.

2. Check your Medicare Advantage network rules

Medicare Advantage plans often work through provider networks and service areas, which means routine care may be more limited when you travel.
